I only discovered Kenwood House around this time last year after my flatmate persuaded me to go on a walk around the grounds, back then the house was still undergoing a massive refurbishment and it only recently reopened to the public. So on Sunday we went back to have a peek inside…as well as lapping up the Autumn sunshine in the surrounding grounds.
There are plenty of masterpieces on display in the house for art lovers, including Rembrandt’s self portrait and the Robert Adams library is one of the most impressive rooms in the house….look up at the ceiling! Kenwood House was recently featured in the film Belle which tells the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle the illegitimate Great Niece of Lord Mansfield who lived at the house and you can find out a more detailed history of Dido on a visit!
Kenwood is set in acres of landscaped gardens and woodland making it the perfect place to explore and for people with dogs or children…or indeed both, it’s an ideal place as there’s lots of space to roam and run around. If you’re looking for a tranquil escape away from the hustle and bustle for a few hours then Kenwood House and grounds is definitely worth a visit! You can find out more on their website: http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/daysout/properties/kenwood/
Afterwards we wandered up to Highgate village to browse the charity shops (there’s always some good finds in the posher areas!)
